Week 1: Why I do it.

Keeping a journal is something I go back and forth with. I do own one I just sometimes don't use it for it's "intended purpose", sometimes I just don't use it at all. Diaries or journals are known for being emotional outlets. Instead of taking their frustration out on the world, a person might decide it would be best to write everything they're feeling down and keep it hidden from everyone else. I do the same thing with my journal, but that's not all I use it for. My journal is for my thoughts and emotions, but I also use it for my ideas, whether it's a an idea for a new book or maybe just an idea on how to solve a crisis I maybe going through. Journals are for writing down all your thoughts not just bad one and not just good ones, they are for everything that you want to remember but don't necessarily need to think about all the time.
Personally, I don't see myself as being able to blog on a regular basis. Not because of my oh so busy schedule or anything, more like I'm more comfortable keeping things more private. I think it just depends on the situation; the type of blog. If I wrote a blog that was completely anonymous but still was about something I was very passionate about I think I could actually do it. Even though blogging is something that I couldn't do myself, I think reading other people's blogs is a very affective thing. Reading another person's blog is like reading their virtual diary. Sometimes depending on a situation I could find a blogger who I have a lot in common with. It's very important to find a relatable blogger, someone who has posts that makes you feel like you are not the only one going through this situation, someone who unknowingly give you incredibly helpful advice. It doesn't matter how it's written, if it's incredibly blunt, super vague, or even if it's only slightly related to what you're currently going through, anything can help.

  1. I love that you made that distinction and pointed out that you use your journal for writing ideas as well because I do that, too. I write down pages and pages of quotes that I either thought of or that stood out to me in books or online, etc. I also put down ideas for new stories, characters, names, or titles. I think that kind of heads more in the direction of bullet journaling, but either way I think it's cool I'm not the only one!

  2. I love your idea of writing a blog that was completely anonymous. I feel like that would be so much fun, ideally, without any of the downfalls of feeling vulnerably put out. I would be afraid though to be completely genuine or transparent for fear of being found out by someone who knows me too well to hide. In concept though, it's great, you could be as satirical or blunt as your want to be and it would be so much easier to keep from taking any adverse public commentary personally!
