When I was really young I used to always keep a traditional diary. Even then, when I would write in my diary, it wouldn't always be daily, but I would write about significant things that happened to me on a daily basis throughout my day. I used to watch this television show called "As Told By Ginger", and the main character in the show kept a diary daily and would reflect on her day and kept a journal, that's something I always tried to keep a habit of doing. I just never stayed consistent. Now that I have gotten older I don't really keep a diary in a traditional sense, but I do write down what I'm thinking often to unload and unpack my mind. Usually when I do write in a form of a diary entry, it's in the notes app of my cell phone, in terms of writing in a traditional journal or diary, I don't but I would like to start.
Sharing my personal thoughts and business online has always been a struggle for me, I don't even have social media for that very reason. I think it can be a good tool for awareness on many topics when being used correctly, however I am not the biggest fan of sharing my every move online for everyone to see. I still scan and scroll the internet so I'm not that out of touch and sometimes I've seen public figures use that platform poorly. I think having a voice for a good reason and purpose online is always great. I also believe its the best way to gain plenty of connections. I believe most people enjoy reading other people's journals online because you get the chance to see that someone else could be experiencing the same things you experience in life. Personally, I always thought that showed me that I wasn't alone. Many bloggers, vloggers, or public figures express struggles they deal with in daily life. I look to find content that I can relate too, that's the main reason why I read other blogs.
Online I can see how many people truly put their entire world and life on the internet, you end up seeing a lot of diary writers expressing themselves in a stream of consciousness mode. From what I see and read it's most relatable that way. I write the exact same way. It helps me feel a connection, especially if the writer wrote about something I think about too. That's the best content to read. Being a writer in general organization is always important, especially because I can struggle with it in my own writing. Spelling and name dropping is also important depending on how you use your platform online as a writer. If your online diary is more professional and not just for your personal satisfaction, I definitely believe all those factors should be at their best. Obviously no one is perfect and we all have room for improvement, but once it's on the internet, it's there forever and that's one thing to always keep in mind.

I found it very interesting that you also thought it was hard to keep and actually stick to writing a journal from day to day. As adults in present day I think the written word that contains your thoughts and feelings is much less common with people. Before the internet and printed text the emphasis was always on writing.
ReplyDeleteIn my life I also find myself writing about my day in a less conventional way so that I can have those memories marked for the future. The struggle of being consistent is always my downfall as well. Even if I can be consistent with my non conventional way of recording my day, I wish that this carried through to a continuous written journal of my life.

DeleteI appreciate the picture, and how you break up the paragraphs. You write fluently, and I find some of your points about dairying and social media extremely valid.
ReplyDeleteIt is rare to meet someone today without social media; I solute you! Sometimes I find myself consistently scrolling through Facebook or Instagram like a mindless zombie. After my eyes are strained and my thumb tires out I think, "Do I really need this in my life?" In my opinion, people on social media who share interests tend to "follow" or "friend" similar pages or people. Posting about one's thoughts or feelings on Facebook can be too common, now. Social media almost has its own way to be an online journal for some people. Some people on social media should be more aware of what they are posting, and stay professional.
